TRA ARTE E NATURA

(MICHEL CASERTANO)

For nearly forty years, in a secluded country house surrounded by woods near a quiet village in the province of Campobasso, an artist has lived in his home, devoid of any basic comforts: no electricity, gas, or running water. He cultivates the land around him and, during periods of inspiration, paints, creates paintings, drawings, and sculptures.

As a young man, he tried living in an apartment in the city, but he didn’t like it—he felt oppressed. In conversation, he often repeats: "I love the earth, nature, open spaces... there is magic in them, just like in painting. I can touch the earth, caress it, and it gives me back the fruits of my labor; it gives me health, serenity, and allows me to always be at peace with myself."

Michel Casertano was born in Gambatesa, Molise, in 1934. A sculptor and painter, he developed a passion for sculpture from an early age and later devoted himself to painting. He is one of the most highly regarded impressionist painters alive today. Throughout his career, he has received numerous awards and international recognitions, including the prestigious Van Gogh Prize, awarded to him in Paris in 1968. He has exhibited his paintings in numerous shows and spread his art through collectors in Montreal, Los Angeles, Paris, Hanover, Lyon, Rotterdam, Brussels, Rome, and many other cities.
